Arriving in Barcelona


Arriving by air

Barcelona Airport is 12 km out from the city. There are various ways of getting from the airport to the city centre.

Arriving by rail

Trains leave from the airport every 30 minutes from 6.13 a.m. to 10.41 p.m. The fare is 2,01 eur (aprox.) and the journey into the centre of Barcelona (stations: Sants or Plaça Catalunya) lasts 20 minutes. Barcelona has two international railway stations: Sants and França

Arriving by bus

The Aerobús leaves the airport every 15 minutes from 5.30 a.m. to 12.00 p.m., Monday to Friday, and from 6.00 a.m. to 12.00 p.m. on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays. The fare is 3 eur (aprox), and the end of the run is in Plaça Catalunya, in the centre of Barcelona.

Arriving by taxi

The black-and-yellow taxis can be hired on the spot. They are unauthorized to carry more than four passengers. If they are free for hire, the green light on the roof is lit up and they have a sign visible inside which reads LLIURE or LIBRE. The fare from the airport is approximately 18 eur (aprox.) to the city centre.


Arriving at UAB Campus


The station from which you catch the train to the University is at Plaça Catalunya. Plaça Catalunya is a major station and it is a stop for several metro and train lines. The train line that brings you to the university is the Ferrocarrils Catalans.

The Ferrocarrils Catalans has several lines all of which depart from the same platform at Plaça Catalunya. There are signboards on the platform indicating the final destinations of the trains. Among them, only two are suitable. S2 destination Sabadell and S55 destination UAB.

Once at the University, just follow the mass of people going down the stairs, and, bearing left, down a wooden ramp. There you must follow signs to Edifici B, "Facultat de Ciències Econòmiques" Departament d'Economia i d'Història Econòmica and CODE and you will have finally reached your destination! It really is all quite easy although it appears rather complicated!!

How to go from the airport to the UAB

You can get a taxi from the airport to the Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona (UAB). The price of the taxi is approximately 21-25 eur (aprox.).
Go to Edifici B, "Facultat de Ciències Econòmiques". Once at the building of the Facultat, follow signs Departament d'Economia i d'Història Econòmica and CODE.

Cost of living

Living costs in Barcelona are similar to those found in other European cities. In comparison with Paris, London or other cities in northern Europe, Barcelona is relatively cheap. It is more expensive than Lisbon and Athens, and is on a par with Rome.

Living expenses depend mainly on the type of accommodation. During the first days it is necessary to allow for a certain amount extra, to meet expenses such as accommodation (including deposits) and public transport passes.

Climate

Barcelona has a Mediterranean climate, and extremes of temperature are uncommon. The monthly averages through the year are as follows (in degrees centigrade): January, 9; February, 10; March, 12; April, 14; May, 17; June, 21; July, 24; August, 24; September, 21; October, 17, November, 13; and December, 10.

Banks and savings banks

Banks and savings banks are generally open from 8.30 a.m. to 2.00 p.m., Monday to Friday. Some banks are open on Saturday mornings, and savings banks open on Thursdays from 4.30 to 7.45 p.m., except from June to September. In the city centre and at places of tourist interest there are several banks that are open every day, especially in the summer, for foreign exchange.
