Barcelona GSE is now Barcelona School of Economics (BSE)

 At its annual meeting in 2019, the Board of Trustees approved the change of our brand name from Barcelona Graduate School of Economics (Barcelona GSE) to Barcelona School of Economics (or BSE for short).

This decision emerged alongside an in-depth brand study that began in 2018 with the aim of producing a new brand strategy to strengthen our global reputation and market position. The name change went into effect on September 1, 2021.

New COVID-19 Research Grant Awarded 

Associate professor Raül Santaeulalia has been awarded the "Pandemies 2020" Grant from AGAUR with the title "Real-Time Economic Policy Against a Pandemic when Government and Agents are Learning"

U. of Chicago Professor Hugo Sonnenschein Dies at 80

Hugo Sonnenschein, doctor Honoris Causa UAB at our department´s proposal and chair of the Barcelona GSE scientific advisory committee, died yesterday July 15, 2021. He was a beloved friend of this department. His strong support to the development of the economics profession in Barcelona was decisive. 


New Development Economics Summer School at Barcelona GSE

Associate professor Raül Santaeulalia will direct a brand new Barcelona GSE Summer School in Development Economics that will feature a networks course by Assistant professor Pau Milán and a course on RCTs by Pam Jakiela (Williams College) and Owen Ozier (World Bank). 

SERIEs Award 2020 by the Spanish Economic Association

Associate professor Joan Llull has been awarded the SERIEs Award 2020 by the Asociación Española de Economía for "outsanding research contribution published in SERIEs" 

Associate professor Francesc Obiols has just published a new article  in the journal Covid Economics, Vetted and Real-Time Papers edited by the CEPR

Professor David Pérez-Castrillo has been awarded the 2019 ICREA Academia award, a five-year excelence in research grant awarded to faculty in Catalan public universities.

Markets, Organizations and Votes in Economics (MOVE) will host the 25th Coalition Theory Network Workshop, to be held in Barcelona on May 21 and 22 of 2020.

Associate Professor Joan Llull has been appointed as Data Editor of The Economic Journal and an Editorioal Board member of The Review of Economic Studies. 

Raul Santaeulàlia-Llopís has been awarded the Beatriz Galindo Senior Research Position Award by the Ministerio de Ciencia, Innovación y Universidades starting this academic year. 

We are delighted to welcome two new hires to our department this year. Hanna Wang (PhD University of Pennsylvania) and Minyoung Rho (PhD Tepper Business School) 

The Department will strengthen its research and teaching potential with the arrival of these new experts, who bring with them a diversity of backgrounds and skills.

The inaugural Lectures of the IDEA 2019-2020 academic year, took place on Friday September 20th, featuring Dr. Lorenzo Burlon (European Central Bank) and Dr. Antonio Cabrales (University College London)

 Alex Ludwig from Goethe University at Frankfurt will be visiting the department for the whole academic year 2019-20.

Alex´s research interests are in the fields of dynamic macroeconomics with heterogeneous agents, public finance and computational economics.

Professor Inés Macho-Stadler has been elected member of the Academia Europeae

Associate professor Antonio Miralles has won the AEJ Best Paper Award in microeconomics for his paper "A Pseudo-Market Approach to Allocation with Priorities" joint with Yinghua He, Marek Pycia, and Jianye Yan.
